St. John the Evangelist Archival Committee
The Archival Committee of St. John the Evangelist Parish is committed to the preservation of the history, artifacts, and archives of the Oldest Continuous Parish in Wisconsin.
Our office is located in the Rectory, at 413 St. John Street, Green Bay, WI 54301. We meet Wednesday mornings as schedules permit.
The Permanent Collection of St. John’s is being gathered and cataloged, and we hope to soon have a means of allowing persons doing research or genealogy access to the wealth of history our parish has acquired over the years.
Current Projects
- Thank you letter to all who have contributed to the Archival Committee
- Registration with the National Register of Historic Places, and the Division of Historic Preservation of the Wisconsin Historical Society.
- Collection and translation (from French and some Latin) of early church records.
- Ongoing preservation and cataloging of important documents, artifacts, letters, etc.
Do you speak or read French? Do you like mysteries and treasure hunts?
The Archival Committee would love your help! We are also looking for:
photos of St. John’s through the years, particularly pictures of the
sanctuary. We will make a non-damaging copy and return the original if
you wish!
Letters, programs, etc. that may be historically significant from past
parish events (anniversaries of the parish, dedications of current
church, etc.)
